Reach Out and Read-Carolinas is part of the nationwide Reach Out and Read organization.

Thank you Junior League of Columbia!

Reach Out and Read Carolinas would like to thank the Junior League of Columbia for their partnership and support of children's literacy! The Junior League's provisional class undertook a project where they remodeled the waiting area of several local clinics to make them literacy-friendly (don't miss the pictures below!). A literacy-friendly waiting area is a key component for Reach Out and Read programs.

The literacy-friendly waiting area provides a place for children to enjoy books, a place to connect parents with community literacy resources, and a place where volunteer readers can share books with kids and model reading aloud skills to parents. More than 400 books have been donated through this valuable partnership with the Junior League to stock the reading corners with books for the families to enjoy together.

"Our vision is to strengthen the health and well-being of children and families in the Midlands, and it's an honor to help support such a wonderful initiative," said Allison Cox, president of the Junior League of Columbia, Inc. "By donating books and playing an active role in creating reading corners in the waiting rooms of local pediatrician offices, we're hoping to help instill a love of reading in children that can positively impact their education for years to come."

Thank you to all of the Junior League members and community partners who helped make this project a success!
