Help Create Literacy-Rich Waiting Rooms
Back to Main Support Page
Becoming a volunteer reader isn't the only way that you can help an Reach Out and Read Program to create a literacy-rich waiting room for the families it serves!
Here are some other ways you can help to improve the waiting room of an Reach Out and Read Program in your community:
- Build or donate bookcases or child-sized furniture (benches, tables, chairs) to help create a reading corner. This is a popular option for Scouting and faith-based groups.
- Donate a soft, story time rug.
- Donate gently-used books or organize a book drive to stock the waiting room bookshelves.
- Donate children's or parenting magazines to lay out.
- Art students or artists can create murals with literary themes or characters.
- Photographers can donate their photography of children and families reading together.
